IVF Consultation

We had our first IVF meeting yesterday. We waited almost 40 minutes to be seen which is fucking annoying as hell since we had lots of errands we were trying to fit in.

But anyway, the nurse had a printed out power point presentation explaining the suppression phase, the stimulation phase, egg retrieval and transfer. It was very cursory and not a lot of new information (for me). It was probably helpful for C, however. We also took home a more detailed booklet that I will peruse this weekend.

Besides my annoyance of the place not keeping the appointment time (I just feel like we are about to commit to paying you $20,000 and you can't be nice to us now - what the fuck) I also felt it when the nurse repeatedly would make comments like "You may not even need the IVF appointment" or "You may be pregnant now." Shut up, cunt! I think I'm past the point of platitudes and rainbows.

I also did not like how price and various packages of IVF were not discussed. Why would that not be part of the meeting? Now I have to wait to talk to another person about that. Ummm if this cycle does not work I want the plan in place now, not after I get my period.

So, we left with the nurse promising someone would call about the pricing. Then we hauled ass to our Home Equity Line of Credit closing. Purpose of that was to pay for IVF, though I did get a bonus that will basically cover it. Yes, I am grateful for such a nice bonus but I am sad that for two years in a row my entire bonus check is going toward unsuccessful fertility treatments. It is unfair and sad and I am allowed to bitch  about it here since no one in real life would understand.

  1. Ugh, for real. I hate when medical professionals don't give you all the information you need about MAJOR AND EXPENSIVE life decisions. All in a day's work for them, but for you it's huge. Can't wait to see what you say about the actual process of IVF, since it's something I haven't tried yet. Good luck! You know I'm rooting for you!

    1. Yes, you and I like facts and information! Is it so hard to get the while picture in advance?
